"My life is so crazy busy!" That is a comment I hear most from the moms I know. I have two sons and a husband that are my focus. When both of my children would be entering the public school system, I had much fear and anxiety as I released them into "the world" which is filled with varying morals and danger.
A friend told me about Moms in Prayer, www.momsinprayer.org, an international organization that was founded by Fern Nichols in 1984. Fern was just like me, a Christian woman who cared deeply for her family. Fern asked God to bring her another mom with whom she could pray for their children and their schools. God answered her prayer in surprising ways! The ministry has grown from that of one group praying in 1984 to moms praying in every state in the USA and in more than 130 countries today. "Moms in Prayer International is a simple ministry," says Fern, "encouraging moms to get together and pray for their children and schools, believing that through prayer God releases His power.""
Thankfully, there was a group already formed in my community. I reached out through the Moms in Prayer website and contacted the leader. In the fall of 2011, I joined a group of seven Christian women who were actively praying weekly for their children and the school system using a Four Steps of Prayer format. At first, I was intimidated. My faith was strong but my prayer life was not. Jesus says in the Bible Matthew 18:19 (NIV): "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." Sometimes it's a simple request of asking for God's peace as we go about our day. Now I am comfortable praying and have volunteered to be Wisconsin's Moms in Prayer outreach coordinator. My heart's desire is to get the word out to other moms who long to do everything they can to protect their children from this uncertain world.
Moms in Prayer's mission is "to impact children and schools worldwide for Christ by gathering mothers to pray." Today they are achieving that goal one mom at a time. Perhaps you are another mom who feels worried as they send their children to school each day. Maybe God has placed in your heart, as mine, that He wants to be involved with the love and protection of His creation, His children. I am a busy mom, but I am also very busy in prayer. I thank God for the ministry of Moms in Prayer. It is truly graced with God's peace. If you want to learn more about this ministry or how to join a prayer group, it is easy to do via the website www.momsinprayer.org (Look for the group locator option on the left side of the home page.) Learning to start your own group can be quick and easy too. (All the information is available online in the leader's corner tab.) As we hustle through the "busiest" time of year, listen to what God places in your heart. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." Luke 2:14 (NIV)
