 According to the National Highway Transportation Agency:
"A correctly used safety seat reduces fatality risk by 71 percent and serious injury risk by 67 percent. But misuse can partially or completely nullify this effect. In 1984, the average overall effectiveness of safety seats (correct users plus misusers) was 46 percent."

Safe Kids Southeast Wisconsin works to prevent childhood accidental injuries, the leading cause of death among children 14 years of age and younger. The four-county coalition, including Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha counties, combines the expertise of community agencies and individuals to prevent childhood injuries through collaboration, education, policy and advocacy initiatives.
Initiatives include preventing:
- Bike-related injuries
- Injuries to motor vehicle occupants
- Falls
- Burns
- Injuries to pedestrians.
- Poisonings.
