Since its founding in 1955, Gray Mare has tailored its educational program around the needs of the children. Gray Mare offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum that guides each child into the world outside the home. Classes specifically designed for 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children are located in Pewaukee and Waukesha.

Each Gray Mare class has two experienced teachers who are college educated and trained in early childhood education; most have taught an average of 10 years or more. Reading and math readiness, music and movement experiences, art projects, special events and foreign language experiences are just some of the activities that are offered at Gray Mare. Skills appropriate for more structured learning are also developed slowly throughout the year. These skills include the ability to sit and listen, follow directions, cooperate, participate and take turns.
