Midwife Recommendations?

I a moving to Milwaukee next week at 24 weeks pregnant and am trying to find a midwife service to transfer my care. I am having a hard time finding midwives and am wondering if anyone has used them in the Milwaukee area, specifically east side ares. I was hoping to establish care at Froedtert but am finding that they only have an OB service and I do not want to deliver within that model of care. Anyone with experience that could recommend a place/provider or could help me navigate the system there would be appreciated.

  1. I see Cheri Jaeger at Aurora Medical Group (formerly Associated OBGYN) at West Allis. We live in Bayview (east side but south of downtown) and it takes me about 20 minutes to get there. I know you want someone closer to the east side, but I don't know of any midwives over there.
The women's pavilion at WA is very nice. I enjoyed my stay there last time.

  2. Stefani, I'm not aware of a lot of hospital-based midwives in Milwaukee, but I know there are some. I had my second baby at St. Jo's with a midwife who practiced there named Eileen Jones. I'm not sure if she's still practicing there.

I hope others can help you out. Are you looking for a midwife with a hospital practice or are you also open to birth centers or homebirth?

  3. Jan Wolfenberg is wonderful but I'm not sure if she does hospital births.

DR. Claudia Koch is a phenominal family practice doctor who is definitely comparible to a midwife. We delivered at Columbia St. Marys and I had absolutely no intervention, I was able to birth in ANY position I was comfortable, I wasn't confined to the bed once my water broke, DH was the one to catch our baby, put her on my chest, and cut the cord, and they never once took her out of my arms. She let me go home 12 hours after she was born. I LOVE her!

  5. I would highly recommend the Midwifery Clinic at Aurora Sinai which is downtown. I have seen many of the midwives for my current pregnancy and have been happy with each.

  6. there are a lot of great home birth midwives out there. check out the care network for those names (http://www.carenetworkwisconsin.org/) there is one other midwife who's not listed on there as a midwife yet and her name is lanette mcquitty. she is listed under doulas but is a midwife.

if you're looking for hospital based CNM your best bet is aurora sinai in downtown milwaukee. they have wisconsin's largest midwifery practice. i would suggest eileen nyholt, nicole pfaff, and nicole virgo.

you can PM me for more info/ my reasons.
