3 Year Old Preschool Program Needed!

My husband and I have three year old twin boys. They will be 4 in October. We are looking for a two day a week morning preschool program to start in the 2011 -2012 school year. We live in the Tosa area by Milwaukee Lutheran High School. We are feeling a bit overwhelmed in all of the researching we are doing. We have one major requirement in our search:
1. A program that is not simply "playing" childcare. We want more of a 3K preschool program with structured activities to get our boys thinking and doing (We realize that much of this can be done through play, but we, again, are looking for a program with some preplanned, structured activities.)
2. I am willing to drive...Tosa, Menomonee Falls, Germantown, Brookfield, etc.
We have heard about Menomonee Falls Preschool Coop. This place sounds great online, but does anyone have a review? I am an educator myself (middle level English teacher), and worked in a 4K classroom for 4 years as well. I like the idea of helping out in the classroom, but I am not sure what this place is actually like.
**Any help/suggestions you could give my husband and me on centers to check out would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you so much!

    Saint James on 60th & Lloyd www.saintjames-mke.org/site/cpage.asp?cpage_id=180001849&sec_id=180000981
    are both good choices.

  2. Hi! I currently have a child enrolled at the Menomonee Falls Preschool Co-op. My oldest also went through the 3K and 4K programs. I am currently a Board of Directors member there as well. I highly recommend calling for a tour or on the 25th and 26th to the Open House (9:30-11 a.m.). I have been very impressed by the teachers, activities, and curriculum over the past three years. We have made many lasting friendships with all the great families as well. The parent helper days are great. However, new for the 2011-12 school year they are no long mandatory. You will still have the option to help. The days you are scheduled you are in charge of bringing in the snack and drink for the day. You will most likely help with the daily craft while the teacher concentrates on a small group academic assignment if you choose to. It is really great to see the class in action and learn about what your child is doing. It sounds like you have checked out the website already. We are also on Facebook! We love the Co-op! Let me know if you have any other questions! ??)

  3. All 'bout children preschool in Brookfield. It is off of Capital drive. They are bilingual(spanish/english). The place is incredible! I have toured several places. This is the only place that my daughter walked right in and started playing. The have a great learning schedule. A binder filled with your child's progress as the school year goes on. IT IS FANTASTIC! My daughter comes home singing songs in English and Spanish. She asks me when she can go back to school. They have before and after school daycare. They have morning programs, afternoon programs, and all day programs. I cannot say enough about it. They have an open house coming up soon. Check it out. Good luck. Very overwhelming, I know.

  4. Thank you all soo much for the input. My husband and I are headed to check out Curiosity Corner this week yet, and we will be heading to the Menomonee Falls Co-op early next week. I guess the best thing we can do is to go and observe! My husband talked to a very helpful woman this morning at the Menomonee Falls Co-op. Thank you too, bruk42, for all of the information. We are hoping that the Menomonee Falls co-op will work out. The woman my husband talked to said that since things are changing for next year, the information is being worked on right now and should be available by early next week. This is why we are waiting until next week to come and visit. We hope to have a decision made on where to send our boys by the end of next week.

  5. Not sure what your price range is like, but Milwaukee Montessori School is supposed to be great. It's right on Bluemound I believe. We looked at it but could not afford it. There are some public/charter Montessori schools around too. I've heard good things about Downtown Montessori and we looked at Highland Community School last year but were wait-listed. Just ended up keeping our son (3 this year, will be 4 in time for K4 next year) at his day care, Wauwatosa Day Care and Learning Center. They do a lot of learning activities (calendar time, read alouds, writing letters, art, etc.) for a few hours every morning, but a good portion of the day is also play. I would say it's half preschool half day care. We're really happy there, but sounds like you're looking for something a little more rigorous than that...

  6. LOVE Menomonee Falls Coop! Our 5 1/2 year old went to the coop for 3K and 4K (even though we had the option to send him to 4 year old kindergarten in the Menomonee Falls School District), and now our 3 1/2 year old goes there this year and we will be sending him there next year as well (again, we have 4 year old Kindergarten in our district but we love the coop so much, we are keeping him there!). Check out the open house on the 25th and 26th!

  7. My daughter attends the Menomonee Falls Co-op and we absolutely love it. She attended the 3K last year and the 4K this year. I, too, am an educator and wanted a structured program that was not just a "daycare". Their program is very structured and while play is a part of the day, which I do feel is important, it is also academic based. Hopefully you will enjoy it on your tour!

  8. DS attends K3 at St. Agnes School in Butler, WI. It's 3 days a week AM session with daycare options in the PM, with very small class size. They have themes and units, and are currently focusing on a letter of the alphabet each day. Very close community and knowledgable teachers. There is also gym time and a structured play-time.
We like it very much! Good luck in your search.

  9. I don't know how far you want to drive, but there is a great preschool in Greendale called Bloom 'N Grow, I work for the Park & Recreation Department, so maybe a little biased, but it is a great program, here is the website:

  10. Our son (turned 4 in October)is in 3K at St. Pius in 'Tosa. St. Pius and St. Bernards in downtown 'Tosa are combining schools next year at the St. Bernards location which is called Wauwatosa Catholic. They are enrolling for the new school/school year and have 3K and 4K. They also have onsite child care. It is worth checking out. I am amazed what they learn in 3K! It is NOT a daycare atmosphere!

  11. My kids went to St. Aemilian Preschool in Wauwatosa. My daughter started there when she was 2 and my son went there for 2 years in 4k. I love it! The teachers are great, structured learning environment, flexible scheduling. It gave my kids a great head start before they went off to the Tosa Public schools.

  12. Really, Preschool program provides excellent activities. The all activities which are organized to here develop mental skills. They learn how to interact with other children.
