Moving to the Milwaukee area soon and wondering what are the best/worst hospitals to deliver a baby at. Curious for this information before choosing a new OB/GYN. Any suggestions?
I delivered my DD at Sinai and didn't like it. Great nurses, though, didn't like my OB or the one who delivered my baby. I just had a bad experience there and wouldn't go back. I'm delivering #2 at Columbia St. Mary's and love my OB (Wasserman), I've heard the nurses at Columbia are outstanding at Columbia. West Allis is a really nice facility, but i've heard bad things about the L&D nurses (from another nurse).
I delivered my first baby at Columbia St. Mary's and was SO pleased with the facility and care we got, that when baby #2 came along, we went there again even though we had moved to the other side of town!
i delivered at St Mary (lake Dr location) too, staff was great. Dr Webb was wonderful. All in all, between me and my son we were there an entire month. Overall, great satisfaction.
I delivered all 4 of my children at St. Mary's. They just finished a remodel to the birthing suites too. They were wonderful EVERY time. For my last child I was living in Germantown but came all the way to St Mary's! Excellent care and Dr. James Linn is the best OB GYN! I had high risk pregnancies with all 3 and they are happy healthy kids! Great staff and nurses!
THANK YOU to all of you for your responses! We're hoping to be in the Whitefish Bay/Shorewood area, so it sounds like St. Mary's would be a great fit. Appreciate the advice - moving while pregnant is most definitely overwhelming, so it is nice to have a little help.
As one of the practicing midwives at St Mary's Milwaukee, I would have to say that the nurses who work there are some of the best I've ever worked with in the past 30 years! We have worked hard in our midwifery practice to promote "gentle birth", with special emphasis on keeping mothers and babies together in that important first hour after birth. We delay footprints, weighing, vitamin K injections and eye ointments, and allow mom and baby time to get to know one another. The nurses are completely on board, and actively encourage mother to keep their little ones skin-to-skin with them with minimal disturbances. I can't speak for the other practices outside of our midwifery group, but from what I have witnessed I think gentle birth ideas are spreading. If you should happen to have a complication or unexpected occurrence, the nurses respond with a professional efficiency that keeps women safe without causing alarm. I feel so lucky to have found myself assisting births at St Mary's hospital.
