Hi all...
I'm new to MilwaukeeMoms but am not a new mother. I am a proud single mother of a 4 year old diva princess who happens to have metaphyseal dysplasia. This is a genetic disease that is fairly new (about 60 years old) that affects a child's bones. My daughter's dysplasia is concentrated in her hips and long bones in her legs with some evidence of it in her arms and hands. The dysplasia is actually a issue with her cells: they are abnormal and will grow abnormally until she stops growing and she will require multiple surgeries because of it.
First born girls are usually have this genetic disease and a good indicators of the disease are wryneck (a crooked neck or torticollis), breech birth, and delay in learning how to walk or walking.
Because of this disease she's had four surgeries since she was two years old...and it was initially thought by her dr. that she wouldn't be walking by the time she's four. But now she's running all over the place, can walk, can climb stairs (something she was NEVER able to do), and is taking ballet! She can't skip but that is something that she is working on.
Are there any other mothers dealing with this issue?
Thanks!
