best school districts- especially elementary-

We will be moving to wisconsin in the next 6 months. We are pretty flexible on location within the entire Waukesha County area. I know nothing about the areas or schools. Really any advice or information about what you like or dislike about any towns/cities in this county would help. Are you happy with your childrens schools? What schools have the best test results/ teacher ratios /activities? We are essentially trying to find a location sight unseen because we live across the country currently. Our kids are still very young so i'm not interested in high schools. i just want them to be in an elementary school that is going to give them a strong educational start. I am also interested in info about private elementary schools.
Please help . it is very overwhelming to make a right decision from across the country. i know mom's know best, so i'm looking foward to your responses.
thanks

  1. Merton Community school district-It's a K-8 district, for High school they go to Arrowhead. Class sizes are small, 18-20. There is a an early childhood program, 4K, 5K-3rd at the primary school and 4-8 at the Intermediate. State of the art technology in all class rooms, smart board interactive white boards in every room and a new program to get netbooks for all kids grades 5-8. Great special Ed program with OT/PT/adaptive phy ed. All kids also have access to Art, Music, Guidance, Gym and PE, when many schools are cutting these programs. Great PTO as well and LOTS of opportunities to vounteer. You sould search their website.
I am a teacher there and will open enroll my kids to attend.
Good luch and Welcome t o Wisconsin! :)

  2. I would say for Waukesha county, the best districts are Kettle Moraine and Arrowhead, which has many feeder K-8 programs, all are good, except maybe Hartland-Lakeside, as a distant last, but not horrible either. If a 4K program is very important to you, not all districts have that. Merton, Richmond and Hartland-Lakeside do.

Is there a part of Waukesha county you need to be near?

Welcome! Best of luck with your search!!

  4. Elmbrook is also considered quite good, although they don't have 4k.

There really aren't any bad school districts in Waukesha County. I suspect you will be fine no matter which town you choose.

  5. I would narrow it down by seeing what the budget cuts have done to the school. Previously good schools have had to change things. Hartland-Lakeside has had major cuts to art, gifted, and I think some other areas. One of the best things about Hart-Lake is that for 4k you can go to WeeKnow :) and then if your child need to stay a longer day, they don't have to go to another daycare. WeeKnow is for 3k & 4k (4k is free for Hart-Lake residents)

My children go to St. Charles in Hartland and we love it. It is for 4k - 8th grade. The kids have small classes (15) w\assistants, Computers, Music, Spanish, Health, Art and much more. No child is turned away for financial reasons. Most of our graduates are placed in high level freshman classes or even sophomore ones.

    Good luck on your search.

  6. We are in new Berlin and the kids have a wonderful school. it was built 4 years ago adn while it's large there are many classes for each grade. The grades are seperated into pods adn the kids interact with all teachers adn kids in each. There are many extra-curricular activities and all grades do art, music, PE and 2 days for library a week (except kindergarten). The school uses technology well adn is always looking to advance to aid students in learning.
