How much Zantac does your baby get?

Our 7-month-old has had acid reflux since he was just a few weeks old. Our pediatrician put him on Zantac and later added Prevacid. We started out with very small doses, but we've had to steadily increase as he's grown because his symptoms keep coming back. He's now taking 2 mL of Zantac twice a day and 10 mL of Prevacid once a day. The few people I've talked to about it have said, "Holy crap, that's a lot!!!" Not exactly what I want to hear.

So...if your baby is on either of these meds, how much does he/she get?

  1. Our second ds had bad reflux as a newborn/infant.
He was on Zantac once a day and got 1ml.
He grew out of having the reflux before he was a year old (I think it was about 8-9 months).

  3. He's about 18.5 pounds right now. We started him on 1 mL once a day (when he was about 10 lb.), and we've steadily increased to 2 mL twice a day. Every time we think he's outgrowing it, the symptoms come back and the doctor increases it again.

  4. Have you explored anything natural you can try? Acidophilus or another probiotic might help.

  5. My daughter is just under 19lbs (at 16mos), and was diagnosed with acid reflux within 1 month of her birth. She is currently on 3ml once per day of prevacid. We continue to weigh down her milk with rice cereal to prevent spit-ups (which she still gets occationtionally). Her explosive-projectile pukes only happen when her dose needs to be adjusted, but she still has mild-spit up every once in a while. We were told she would out-grow it around 1yr (didn't happen) so we just keep rolling with it. She's never been on Zantac, just the prevacid. I haven't found anything that helped diet-wise, infact, we had to stop giving her yogurt (one of her fav foods) because it seemed to put her reflux into hyper-drive. As long he's growing and your dr doesn't seem to be concerned by it, I wouldn't worry too much. Otherwise, you could look into some digestive specialists, your pediatrician should be able to make some recomendations, otherwise I can dig out the names our dr gave us.
