All day 4K programs in West Allis, Hales Corners area

Both my DH and I are working parents and we want to send our dd to 4K, but we are having problems finding a place that has either an all day program or a program with affordable before and after care programs. We cannot afford to spend more money than we already are with her in daycare. Basically what I am going to have to do because her daycare does not offer transportation is leave work every day at lunch to transport her myself. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to do that everyday of the week though due to meetings and such. We live in West Allis and her daycare is in Hales Corners so I most likely will have to do open Enrollment because I cannot make it to West Allis everyday from Franklin on my lunch hour. Any suggestions would be so helpful. I just want to keep challenging her and I am not sure her daycare will prepare her for K5.

  1. St. Paul's Muskego (corner of Janesville and Tess Corners) offers a full-day 4K program as well as extended care. Their open house and registration is on Sunday, January 29 from 1-3pm. Here's more info: http://stpmuskego.org/home/140003034/140003034/Images/openhouse1.pdf. My oldest son attended 4K there, my daughter is currently enrolled, and my youngest will be attending next year. We're very pleased with the curriculum as well as the flexibility of the program. (We don't use the all-day option, but my kids do need the extended care option once a week.)

  2. Hey, I'm pretty sure west allis offers an after school program. Did you receive registration forms for 4k yet? When my daughter went last year they did have some kind of program for kids who went to 4k. You should call the school you plan on sending her to and ask them. Let me know what happens! Good luck!

  3. The West Allis school in my district does have after school care, but not before school care. The problem is I work 25 minutes away from that school so it will be really hard for me to transport her everyday from daycare to that school on my lunch hour. It would be perfect if they would offer full day!!! It shouldn't be this hard for a working parent to better their childs education. Sigh...

  4. Have you considered changing your daughter's daycare to West Allis? Many daycares in West Allis will transport to the local schools. My old one did it for free. West Allis 4k is only 1/2 days. So when my ds was in 4k, we would just have daycare pick him up. West Allis schools has aftercare until 5:30 for those in the pm 4k. Its really cheap, $120 PER YEAR. We found this nice too because some of the same kids who went to ds daycare, also ended up in his school, so the first year of school was nice as he already had friends! On top of it, you would only have to pay for 1/2 day of daycare.

Also keep in mind, you can only do open enrollment IF the district offers the SAME program as your home district. I think 4k enrollment is EARLY february in WA and its first come first serve so you need to go on the 1st day to get in the school you want.

I know it would be hard changing daycares but it would only really be for a year. FOr us, it was always easier to have daycare closer to home than closer to work. Then plus maybe your ds can also help in drop off and pick up?

  5. I believe two of the West Allis public elementary schools offer all day 4k, where it is school in the morning and basically day care in the afternoon (don't know how long it runs each day). The number of students admitted are limited. I think one of the schools is Irving. You do have to pay much more than just if she was only going to school.

  6. St Matthias offers a full day 4K and before/after care. Tuition with before/after care will still be cheaper than full day daycare.
