Description:
“Super Top Gyroscopes” spin longer than tops and have funny characteristics at this program for family fun. A special visit to the Spinning Top and Yo-Yo Museum from 1 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, will have extra features including “super top gyroscopes” to try. Gyroscopes are a cousin to the top and yo-yo, and they will spin and balance longer than normal spinning tops, due to special rotation physics. ....................................... Hands-on fun with 35 other tops and top games is part of the program, too. The Top Museum program also includes videos, an exhibit of 2,000 items, an I Spy Hunt plus a live presentation by the Judith Schulz. ....................................... Schulz is listed in the credits of the MGM movie My Summer Story, at the “Tops Exert.” This movie is the sequel to the famous A Christmas Story, with the main character Ralphie. Schulz also worked on the movie set with the main crew director of A Christmas Story. A scene from My Summer Story is re-enacted with the help of the audience, and everyone gets to see some of the actual movie props. The entire family enjoys this on-of-a-kind museum, so bring Grandpa, too.” added Schulz. This program is also offered for school field trips, large groups and tour groups throughout the year by appointment. ............................. At this special session, the extra fun includes a special gyroscope demonstration; a hands-on gyroscope experiment to try and a look an antique gyroscope collection are featured. Toy gyroscopes are in the spinning top family, but they can be balanced in unusual ways, even on the edge of a glass. Mechanical gyroscopes are utilized in serious ways in flight, missiles, ships, and other things of our daily lives. Tickets for the program are $15 per person. Tickets paid for by Feb. 20, 2013 are discounted to $13 each. The gift shop is open afterwards with 400 kinds of tops, gyroscopes, and yo-yos. The gift shop accepts checks or cash, but not credit cards. The Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum program is for ages 4-104, and tickets should be ordered as soon as possible.
