At this point, Laurie Berkner needs no introduction. She’s been queen of the kids music scene for nearly a decade now, and she shows no signs of stopping. Her latest DVD Party Day! follows her formula for success.
Laurie has perfected the 3 minute pop-rock song for children. The songs are bright, bouncy, goofy, lighthearted and fun. Exactly how your kids want them.
One would expect a DVD called “Party Day” to feature songs about parties, and they don’t disappoint. A birthday party, a costume party and pajama party are all on the new album. Cookies, cake and balloons are also featured subjects.
The DVD is also packed with plenty of behind-the-scenes of making the album, features on the all the members and much more. The DVD also comes with a five track bonus CD, including an acoustic version of the song "My Family."
For long time fans, this DVD is a no-brainer. For new fans, this is just as good of start as any of her DVDs.
Here is the video for 'Where is the Cake?'
Make sure to check out her video channel on YouTube for more great videos.
You can buy the DVD straight from Laurie on her website.

Less than a year after releasing his album This is Fun!, Caspar Babypants is back with another album called Sing Along! I still haven't finished my review, but he did release videos for two tracks off of the album that are worth sharing right away. First up, my favorite track on the album, the hauntingly beautiful 'Baby Cloud' featuring Rachel Loshak.
And the more upbeat, Funny Bone has a fantastic follow-along video.
Bonus: Not one to rest w/ simply releasing a new album every year, Caspar Babypants is also releasing two books with accompanying audio that you can download for free. To watch previews of the two books w/ the music click here and here.
I'll have full reviews of the books & CD in the near future.
Has it really been a month since I posted? Let's play catch up.
I'm a sucker for nostalgia. So when I heard a bunch of bands would be covering songs by The Muppets on a new album, I was beyond giddy.
Sadly, however, the results are underwhelming. The album isn't terrible, but nothing really sticks out. It makes me long to remember listening to the originals. Listen for yourself here.
With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed the video for OK GO's rendition of The Muppet Show Theme song. Check it out:
Other than The Muppets, one of my favorites - Secret Agent 23 Skidoo - debuted a new single yesterday and you can now download it for free. It's the perfect back to school song. Listen. Download. Share. Repeat.
Also, 'Wild Thing' writer Chip Taylor has a new album come out that he recorded with his grandkids. I'd suggest giving 'Golden Kids Rules' a listen. The album will be released in October.
For those of you who use Spotify, check out the current playlist I listen to in the car with my daughter. Check out the playlist here.
Next up, congrats to Living Lake Country reporter JR Radcliffe, who will be entering the world of parenthood in a couple of months.
In adult music, I can't get enough of MyNameIsJohnMichael. You can get two free songs for the cost of an e-mail right here. Do it. You won't regret it.
And finally, be sure to pick up a copy of the September issue of metroparent magazine to read my feature story on the kids movies that will be playing at the Milwaukee Film Festival next month.
Phew, what did I miss? Next week I have a boatload of reviews on a ton of music, books and DVDs I've received during the past couple of months including lots of giveaways. Stay tuned!
"Wisconsin Poncho, Dude, don't you know?" is a phrase that has been repeated by my daughter for the past couple of months thanks to Gustafer Yellowgold. Here's my review of the latest Gustafer CD/DVD Inifinity Sock from back in March. Gustafer is the brainchild of musician/illustrator Morgan Taylor and he recently took Gustafer out on tour. After they stopped in Madison last month I convinced them to stop in our not-used-very-often-studio to perform a couple songs off of Infinity Sock.
BONUS: We've got an autographed copy of Infinity Sock to giveaway to one lucky reader! Simply leave a comment saying, of the 3 songs he performed for MilwaukeeMoms.com, which one is your favorite. We'll pick a winner next Tuesday. Good luck and check out the videos of Morgan Taylor in our studio!
Special thanks for Morgan, his wife Rachel and their two kids for taking time out of their busy schedule to stop in our studio.
And The Song Goes
Hey mom, get off of the phone mom
Stop typing that text mom
Why can't you just talk to me intead of picking up mom
That incoming call, mom?
As we hit the holiday weekend, lots of people will be out traveling. Here is a friendly reminder from your kids, to put the phone down, pay attention to the road and talk to them instead.
The song comes from Jamie Broza's latest album, I Want A Dog! Check out the video:

Full Lyrics:
Hey mom
Get off of the phone mom
Stop typing that text mom
Why can't you just talk to me intead of picking up mom
That incoming call, mom?
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
Each day I get out of school
Wait outside for mom
Pretty soon she drives up in her car
I jump inside and tell her all about
My busy day but then I look up,
She's heard nothing, so I say "Hey Dude, that's so rude"
Hey mom
Get off of the phone mom
Stop typing that text mom
Why can't you just talk to me intead of picking up mom
That incoming call, mom?
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
I play on my school's soccer team
After school each day
We practice or sometimes have a game
Yesterday I broke away and scored the winning goal
But when I looked up,
Dad had missed it, so I had to shout, "Time Out!"
Hey dad
Get off of the phone dad
Stop typing that text dad
Why can't you just talk to me intead of picking up mom
That incoming call, dad?
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
One time we were in the car
Heading for New York
For my birthday, we would see a show
My dad was on the phone, talking to his boss, about a deal
When we almost got hit! By a truck! But he Missed!
What luck! Holy Smokes! So I threw a fit, “That's it!”
Hey dad (AND MOM)
Get off of the phone dad (AND MOM)
Stop typing that text dad (AND MOM)
Why can't you just talk to me intead of picking up mom (AND MOM)
That incoming call, dad? (AND MOM)
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
Turn that phone off, while your driving me
Turn that phone off, while your driving me

I've said numerous times that I wish more (heck, any) Milwaukee venues would book children's musicians. But since the venues would make very little bar revenue, they don't. So when a great artist comes near Milwaukee I'm bound to go check it out.
This Sunday in Madison, Morgan Taylor AKA Gustafer Yellowgold, brings his cast of characters to the High Noon Saloon for a matinee performance. My review of the new DVD/CD Infinity Sock back in March had lots of nice things to say about it. Three months later, this album is still in heavy rotation in our house.
One of my daughters favorite songs is Wisconsin Poncho, a song about a store that only sells clothes made of cheese, such as bleu shorts, masks of brie, mac ‘n cheese helmets and colby chaps!
See you Sunday. Dude, don't you know!
Details:
Start Time: 3:00PM
Cost: $10. Kids under 2 years old are free.
